Persistance, Patience, Permit!

The Permit have been active!  The summer of 24 has been epic! We have been finding Permit on the Mud Flats, Reef Flats and Big Schools in the Channels. Lots of success with the olive Bauer Crab Fly and the occasional Mantis Shrimp Fly.

Andy Straus of Hunker Down loves to fish with Anglers Abroad

Andy Straus is a talented singer, songwriter, music entrepreneur, hot picking, hip shaking fun master. He is the leader of the Colorado based band, Hunker Down which he calls, “Folk n Roll”. He makes his living playing with the band, solo, and with the powerful duo Andy Straus and The Real McCoy. With roots in bluegrass, folk, blues, and country music he writes songs about living in the mountains the finer things in life. And he has a great list of covers that they can play beautifully. When he isn’t on stage or planning his next tour or festival, you can find him finding inspiration in the river fishing or traveling somewhere new. His music brings you into the lifestyle and feeling of living in the mountains.

Andy graces us with his presence every year and as his personal friend and guide we have a great time.  We really like to explore and push the limits with new spots and fishing techniques. If your lucky you can bump into Andy at one of Caye Caulkers local restaurant and bars where he might be playing along with one of our local favorite musicians.  If you do ask him how his day of fishing was.

Bird Watching Tours

Caye Caulker is a bird watchers paradise.  The mangroves and the littoral forests of the southern end of the island (around and past the airstrip) are teeming with more than 100 species of birds.  This is a great area to go bird watching on your own.    We also have a self-guided trail through the Caye Caulker Mini Reserve, along the beach at the northern end of town, where you can learn about many of the native trees and plants of Belize, including the cocoplum, sea grape, poisonwood, and gumbolimbo trees.  Cory Young, the ultimate bird lover and licensed tour guide offers guided Bird-watching nature walks. She’ll spend four hours with you, exploring the mangroves, littoral forests, and shoreline while sharing her passion and expertise about Caye Caulker’s birds.
